The University of Colorado College of Nursing dedicates Nursing Commemorative GardenPublished 5/18/2010

Despite a spring snowstorm, a large group of well wishers gathered to celebrate the opening of a beautiful garden on the east lawn of the University of Colorado College of Nursing, at the Anschutz Medical Campus, on May 12. Terry Biddinger, Director of External Affairs at the College, was delighted to announce that the expenses of the garden were totally underwritten by local companies.

Recognized on a stone marker in the garden are Saunders Construction, CoCal Landscape and Green Spot Nursery. John Beeble of Saunders Construction, Tom Fochtman of CoCal Landscape, and Marty Ida of Green Spot Nursery, were presented with marble plaques in gratitude for their generous efforts. A delicious brunch was donated by the Grand Hyatt Denver.

College of Nursing Dean Patricia Moritz, PhD, RN, and Richard Krugman, MD, Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, welcomed the guests.

Col. Sheri Ferguson, Deputy Commander for Health and Nursing at the Ft. Carson Army base, in Colorado Springs, laid a wreath on the Sharon A. Lane Memorial located in the garden. Col. Ferguson shared with the audience that Lt. Lane was the only American service woman killed as a direct result of enemy fire during the Vietnam War.

The morning ended with a tour of the snowy garden for those guests hardy enough to brave the cold.
